| Tata Indica Vista Quadrajet The diesel hatch bracket is fast gaining popularity amongst the masses and contrary to the popular belief of diesel's being boring and troublesome, this new breed of diesel hatchbacks are not only reliable but they also suffice the car enthusiasts. The latest entry into this segment is the all-new TATA Indica Vista Quadrajet. | | | Upside : Space, comfort, practicality, value for money Downside : Weight, top-end performance | | | | | | | The new Indica is a highly involving car to drive and it never gets flustered which is more than we can say even for the Swift. The ride and handling | | | | of the Vista is in another league altogether as is the comfort and space it affords, now with even more refinement, polish and appeal. The TATA Indica Vista is for the family man and the Indica delivers exactly what the buyer demands - comfort, space, economy and ride quality. The earlier Indica suffered from major reliability issues and the over build quality was not upto the mark only till now. The new car is much strongly built and has superb dynamics that enhance the ride quality to a greater extent. The new car comes with a choice of three engines of which only the 1405cc TDI unit is a Tata engine tweaked and carried over from its predecessor. Out of the other two engines the first is the 1172cc FIRE unit, an all new take on Fiat's acclaimed petrol engine which has been adapted to take not just electronic throttle-by-wire control but also a continuously variable cam phaser which manifests itself in excellent driveability and strong fuel efficiency. The second engine is the class act as has already been proved by Suzuki in India with its Swift DDIs. This is the famed Fiat 1.3-litre Multijet which is made at Ranjangaon near Pune by the Fiat-Tata Motors JV for use by both car makers. This engine is noted not just for its power and torque characteristics but also for its driveability and its frugal appetite. Pricing is another Indica virtue and here Tata Motors has stayed true to its intentions. To many it might sound aggressive but do note that the Quadrajet-powered Indica Vista is a bigger car, a more moderner car and also - dare we suggest it, a better car than the competition. |
