Buying a Car ? Get Best Deal

The most awaited car of the year, the Volkswagen Polo, was finally launched at the 2010 Auto Expo here in Delhi. Already an international Best Seller, the new Polo has been specially modified to suit Indian needs. The Polo also represents an important milestone in expanding the Volkswagen brand in India.

The Polo was launched with two engine options for India. The first is a Petrol powered version which comes equipped with a 1.2-litre petrol engine under the hood capable of producing 75hp and 110Nm of torque. The diesel variant is also 1.2-litres in capacity, and also makes a maximum power figure of 75hp, but an increased torque output of 180Nm. Both the petrol and diesel versions are offered in three trim levels - Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. Both cars will also be equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Polo offers plenty of internal storage space as well as a folding rear seat to maximise rear storage. In terms of safety features, the car also comes equipped with ABS, dual airbags as well as an anti-theft immobilizer.

Volkswagen Polo Back

Along with the two versions of the Polo that will go on sale, Volkswagen also unveiled the race version of the car that will participate in the Polo Cup. The Cup Polo is equipped with a 1.6-litre diesel engine that produces 130hp of peak torque and 250Nm of maximum torque. This racing car also comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox, Sachs adjustable racing suspension as well as all the necessary safety equipment such as an FIA  approved roll cage.

I saw the specs on the VW site for UK for New Polo. Emission standard is EURO 5!! India gets lower standards. The color choices, gear options and engine options are much more in the UK. It is very disheartening to see that VW is discriminatng against Indian prospects and customers. They can give a price range for their cars - low end POLO to high end POLO. i20 is also selling the range - VW will bite another failure as with Fabia. | Reply
Mahendra  (14 January 2010 19:24) Reply to Ramagopal
Then Indian requirement to Ghobal emission standard (refrence submit Copenhagen)should be also less than UK ? ...what is wrong about a "typical Indian". I guess think tank needs brainwash or car wash | Reply

POLO...thats one name which all fellow Indians (similar to me) would like to see hitting the Indian roads soon. I am more interested in the 1.6 Sport variant which would be launched in June or earlier this year. Thats what the Polo would be like, beating all the possible competitors in the line. Polo which would be launched would not have the similar head lamps as shown during the auto show but will have a bit modified one's which would change the look of the car a bit but who cares...when it comes to VW its all we see. Love the car. | Reply

Few things that I am upset about Polo - even if we consider the Highline specs available on the VW.in website, which is expected to cost 7.5 L on road, as per a VW dealer1. No Electric ORVMs2. Rear seats can not be completely folded like in EU version3. No Diesel Option for Highline4. Knobs quality - too much cost cutting5. No Climate Control !Few good things though1. Good Petrol Engine option ( 1.6 L )2. Goggle Holder , though in Glove box3. Nice Water bottle holesExpecting Good Driveabilityi20 wins over though ! | Reply

euphoria is same as that of Punto sometime ago. But, didn't they disappoint us with the shit called punto ? I fail to understand why they have to offer the third class material when it comes to India ! Dont we deserve better ? If this polo offers the same quality which is being offered in Europe, that too in the price range of 4.5 lac to 5.5 lac, this will become the heartthrob of people. Anything less will be catastrophic. Indians are best informed people and value money. They will not throw money just because YOU say. Jazz was a good product, but they tried to fool Indians with it by commanding such exorbitant price. Even it has to be a Honda or a Volkswagen, it has to sound logical.wat say ? | Reply

If its equivalent to jazz, then it will not survive in indian market.
Safecatch (07 January 2010 14:16) Reply to suresh
It CANNOT be even near to jazz price as there is hell lot of difference b/w jazz and this one. Firstly its 75ps, secondly not as glamourous as jazz, and what can be inferred from these facts is, the target is not premium customers. Its for normal indian families. Hence should be priced around i10/swift.
  • Deb (06 January 2010 23:19)
Guys, Dont become so excited about the car. Firstly pricing is goin to be more than expected. Basic model will start from 5lac at lst, and high end more than 6. 1.6 ltr model will definitely be more than 7.5. At that price or less i20, punto ritz are givin more or similar feature. Engine is not as they give in Europe, but how it is compared to other brands can be told only after test drive. FYI, swift gives same engine in europe and in India. Last but not the least, servicing is horrible unless they make it better coming days. Those are my opinions, only time will tell the facts. | Reply

What is important for India is to improve the public transport system to control carbobn emission and reduce the carbon footprint. The foreign car makers are using India as a dumping ground for their high tech waste and taking advantage of the fat egos of the indian consumer market. Please stop drooling over every new automobile release, you are only harming India by encouraging this frenzy | Reply
amit (06 January 2010 13:55) Reply to Ved
mr ved....do u knw anythin about the EURO norms???if u don then let me explain briefly.....they are emission norms which all the manufacturers must comply before they introduce a new car......these norms help in reducing carbon emissions n other toxic waste frm automobiles....EURO IV is plying now......n polo is a EURO IV compliant car......technically speaking then,u r actually helping the environment by buying de polo or any EURO IV compliant car rather than cars like maruti wagon r or de santro or even a maruti 800 for tat matter...........get ur facts right before u comment..... | Reply
Vinni (06 January 2010 17:14) Reply to amit
Mr Amit, I think you misinterpreted Ved. If the public transport system gets improved and people use them the carbon footprint would be lesser. IMO and understanding, Polo 1.2 lit petrol after 1000 km of running would leave approx 0.2 tonnes of CO2 whereas if 1000 km of bus service is utilized, it'd be around 0.1 tonnes of CO2. | Reply
Ad (07 January 2010 10:59) Reply to Vinni
Walk mr. Ved.. just walk and use bicycles... no need to improve public transport then... condition of our public transports is worst and there are no chance to get improvements in that
SB (07 January 2010 11:21) Reply to Vinni
Guys...take it easy...dont compare India with European or US markets. There the number of cars per 1000 people is 800-900 ...whereas in India its still 8! So, as a growing economy, I dont think its the so called "fat egos" that make you buy cars. Cars are more of a necessity rather than a luxary. The hatches are generally the lightest on the enviornment because of their small and frugal engines. Mr. Ved...why do you want the people of this country to continue living in the vedic ages and get shoved around in over crowded busses?
