Buying a Car ? Get Best Deal

With the increase in the world temperature and the global warming having adverse affect on our environment make automakers are doing their bit to contribute in helping their environment. The Toyota came with the Prius long ack, the Hyundai announced to build an i10 electric the Honda getting hybrid with the Civic, now its turn for the Indian giant, Tata Motors to do their bit.

The company has announced that it would soon come with an electric version of the Indica. The electric Indica, which was unveiled at the auto expo last year, will be available for launch in the country simultaneously with its global unveiling in 2011. The company is currently developing the electric Indica with a Norway-based firm for launching the car in the European market by 2011.

Tata Motors managing director (India Operation) Prakash M Telang said that the company would study the market demand in the country before launching the electric Indica.

"Not at the moment. We will start (the feasibility study) closer to when we have the product ready. We will do it from next year," Telang said when asked if the company has initiated the market study.

The car's introduction in India would depend on the cost factor as it is a price sensitive market.

"We have to look into the cost equation in India. We have to see the market demand as it will be an expensive vehicle...Electricity is also not easily available in the country," Telang said.

Govt should take token tax of Rs 1. as the technology is new. The policy is make as many people comfortable as possible rather put as many in shit. If activities are curtailed, employment also does. make willing people employable, so crime rate becomes negligible. | Reply

Electric car does not solve the problem because you have to see how electricity is produced, which again in india is a scarce commodity. If COAL based plants or nuclear are producing electricity then there is no difference between petrol or electricity. | Reply

why make a electric NaNo instead of a electric Indica ? Nano would run longer as it is a light car. Tata already has a production line for Nano. This will pave the way for cost-effective people's Electric car. | Reply

Talking about the Gove subsidy for Electrica cards - Reva though a global successful Indian car is made by the Maini Group which is not very influential....Take my words and mark it - Once TATA forays into the market, they have the capacity to influence the Govt and get TAx rebates for Electric cars to get the cost down!!! THIS WILL HAPPEN!!! | Reply

This is the need of the hour. As one can see the number of cyclones that had already hit the world over, we have to preserve the environment and moreover someday petrol is going to finish. Hence this is a good initiative from the TATA's as all other compnaies are busy making prototypes and top of the end green cars of which most are outside the reach of the common people. | Reply

one more thing in addition to this..don't buy car only because you have money..buy it only if you need it...also don't buy land and construct a bunglow on it..only because you have money..because agriculture land and forest land is reducing day by day...due to population multiplication effect. | Reply

Fully agree to that, the problem is not, that people who would really need a car for transportation only use it. its moreover a status symbol and nothing else. like in western countries where it has to be an Audi or BMW, although people don t even need a car because of advanced public transportation. and in the end every car brings one to his destination. TATA go for more! | Reply

In its present form the Indica cannot be converted to electric owing to the excessive weight that the vehicle has designed basically to harbor a heavy diesel engine. The car would have to be reengineered to make it lighter more on the lines of the Nano. A lot of innovation will be required. But the Tatas have been known to provide tomorrows technology today in all their products so i strongly believe they can pull this one off ... | Reply

I think the weight is due to the engine and that is going to change with different engine in place. hence there will be no problem. | Reply

It is indeed a surprise that the govt provides very little incentive for an electric car.The reva has been in market for a long time | Reply

absolutely shyam...they should learn from their european counterparts, and provide incentives and facilities. What ever happened to the biodiesel project as well. Britain is backing tata to make the indica vista electric car in UK, and is providing incentives to reva buyers, like free charging areas, free parking and all. | Reply

politics. i read somewhere in times before some time that Maharashtra CM bunglow consumed more than 4 lakhs units of electricity last year...and rural areas are in dark for more than 6 hrs...due to scarcity of electricity electric car is not coming on roads... | Reply

excellent.....however tata will also soon start manufacturing the electric indica vista in the UK, with its govt. backing? I hope the indian govt provides more incentives for makers and buyers. | Reply

sorry boss...electric car will be a public car..those politicians have nothing to do with public car...because they use high end cars...they are least bothered...least interested... | Reply
nishit (26 November 2009 15:01) Reply to prince
you're right....otherwise they would have given incentives to reva customers already :).... i hope they think more about the environment soon :) | Reply
