SUV of the year

Team Zigwheels 07 Dec 2009

Buying a Car? Get Best Deal

Big, brawny and loads of attitude. These attributes define an SUV perfectly. That coupled with space, versatile seating, powerful engines and decent off-road capability is what's needed to make a SUV sell.

And recently there has been a barrage of SUV's hitting the Indian Market with the Toyota Fortuner being the latest entrant. With more and more additions, the segment is only hotting up further.

Toyota-Fortuner

Toyota Fortuner

Toyota finally brought in the long awaited Fortuner on Indian shores recently. With butch looks, a brilliant diesel engine pumping out a 170 PS along with all-time 4WD, the Fortuner is one of the most capable SUV's for going off-road. There is plenty of room on the inside as well but interiors are pretty Innova-ish for a 20 plus lakh rupees car. The D4-D unit is pretty efficient as well considering the mammoth weight and the all time 4WD system. Toyota's reliability mated with good value for money makes the Fortuner a strong contender for any battle.

We need to start thinking beyond toyota concept, it has come to a stage where whatever Toyota makes getting the best rating, what is the bassis of the the evaluation?is it scientific? | Reply

Shiju,Trust me when I say you cant beat a Toyota. I have driven and owned a number of european cars . They all have a USP but when it comes to reliability, build quality, dealer service etc etc, only VW comes close. Next best thing after a Toyota is a Nissan without Renault parts. | Reply

Buying Toyota since 1984 for entire family members in Los Angeles. I can tell you from the experience, Toyota and Lexus both are best in maintenance and quality. I have Lexus LS400 229,000 miles. Drove from Los Angeles to Florida(2500 miles/4000 KM with few stops) in 42 Hours. No over heating, never break down, never stops on freeway. Believe me I used corolla, camry, sienna, supra, tercel, LS400 not a single one had given any problem. Honda is good when new but reapir for used car is much verse than Toyota. I have driven BMW 325 from Arkansas(Bill Clinton state) to Los Angeles, but I have to take rest. Good car but I got tired but not in LS400, which is built by Toyota. | Reply

Javid no doubt that Lexus has a fantastic range. LS400 is such a comfortable car that you won't feel tired at all. A LS400 of year 2000 model is much better than many of the new model cars. | Reply

Mr. Faraaz, please don't say anything bad about anybody. Everyone has a different level of exposure, hence the choice of car accordingly. But that doesn't give us right to say anything bad. Cheers ! :-) | Reply

Don't buy Toyota Fortuner if you want to use it personally. If you want to run it as a Taxi then it is fine, but such a costly Taxi ? I wonder... :-) | Reply
