Honda CR-V Gets Refreshed

Vikram Gour 03 Nov 2009

Test Drive Honda CR-V

Honda Siel Cars India Ltd has launched a new version of the CR-V. The upgraded version is set to bring in higher levels of quality and offer customers more bang for their buck. It might be a minor makeover late in the year, but welcome never the less.

The CR-V, which is essentially a CBU import model from Honda for India, now boasts of a revised look. The front grille has been changed to feature a two step look and the hood has been re-sculpted as well. Honda has also revised the front bumper which now houses oval shaped fog lamps. At the rear, it is only the bumper that has come under the scalpel of the designers and at first glance the soft roader still looks very similar to the departed model. The changes however have made the new CR-V 45mm longer than its predecessor however interior dimensions are the same. To spruce up the exteriors even further, Honda has done away with the 7 spoke alloys and the new CR-V now comes shod with 10 spoke alloys that not only look better but lend a rather sporty touch that does aid in enhancing the overall looks of the vehicle.

Coming to the interior and where Honda has played up the game a little more than the exterior, you will find that the high end 2.4 L model boasts of steering-mounted Cruise Control system. Other improvements include six airbags with occupant position detection system (OPDS), a new improved music system with a USP port in the upper glove box, a lightened color scheme for the interiors, chrome audio controls and gear knob. Overall, the interiors have been spruced up to give the vehicle an enhanced luxury feel.

On the engine front, Honda will continue to offer the same engines that the outgoing model had, namely, the 2.0 L - MT 2WD and 2.4L MT / AT Real-time 4WD. Expect performance and mileage to be exactly the same as the earlier model, for the changes are rather cosmetic.

We should start Selling CR-V on e-Bay made in US and delivered in India. The price is almost double in India, how common person can afford .... I believe TATA Nano is Good with price, One honda CRV vs 50 Nano's. 50 Nanos caries 200 persons but CRV can carries only 4. I believe 200 is better number .....Jai Ho | Reply

Meanwhile the common person should learn to use the public transport. Can u imagine the chaos on the roads and the pollution when several common persons ride out in their Nanos? | Reply

For ur kind information this most of the luxury brands are way too cheap in UAE and go buy frm there. If this would have been in diesel than no body wuld have talked abt its price. U diesel freakin people go and buy RITZ that too in diesel. U dont even worth petrol........ | Reply

Its about value for money, and of course its a price concious market in india. Lets not forget the stocks piled with the Premium range cars with low milage and high on maintenence. Also the huge pile of second hand cars with few takers. its definately takes a recession to talk about value for money!!!Its also interesting to note that the car makers like Tata are taking over SICK (jaguar and rover) units pervieving a potential market and probably heading indian market in the same direction and encashing in the bargain. The bottom line is to get "VALUE FOR MONEY" .Coming back to Honda, it is offering the same engines with cosmetic upgradations, Cruise and enhanced music system are few of the features which have been ugraded. Now that s the point that when these features are a part of the standard accessories in CRV status cars anywhere abroad, why demand extra and introduce as new features? Also what remains to be seen is the market response to the pricing..Justified??? | Reply

To those complaining about exhorbitant price:The price in India is very high because these units are imported from Japan as CBUs and subject to exhorbitant import duties. In addition, the excise duty in India is amongst the highest in the world. that causes it to be so costly here. The same units (some of them are being manufactured in US also now) are imported in US from Japan but are cheap because of low import duties and excise. | Reply

All SUVs currently available in india are clearly overpriced. CRV, XTRAIL, VITARA are considered as entry level SUVs that cost around rs 10 lakh in Japan/US. So what ever the quality improvement they bring, this price is not justifiable. Why should indians pay extra 12 lakh? Does rupee has no value? People should not encourage such trend here. | Reply

I live in US, and can say that this pricing is very unreasonable as equivalent model in US costs around $27,745. Even if you conver that amount (forex 1 dollar=49 INR) the amount comes out to be, INR 13,59,505 which is approximately half the price of CRV in India. So why should only Indians pay extra for the 'build quality'? Do you know the price of CRV in US? It is one of the cheapest SUV. In India you have to pay more than double! That is 9 lakh 12 lakh extra. So extra 12 lakh is for the quality! Don't you think it is too much? | Reply

Honda's are for the Elderly .. in UK and I see a whole nation being cheated when they just put new clothes on the same model as the older one and thrust an exhorbitant price tag in ur face.. There is one smart way of tackling it and getting the prices down from these greedy firms who think India as their dump yard for the cars and tech not needed in the western world.. Simply stop buying it. As the numbers crunch for the firm they would realize that Indians can't be fooled around and offer better tech at lower prices. Just a thought why do u presume prices are low in US or UK.. coz cars just like any other machine has a life cycle use and throw or scrap which India has to graduate to .. if we stop treating cars with a status symbol and take them to be just cars ..obviously as a petrol head my immense respect for vehicles that actually command it e.g lambo's ferrari's etc. then this will usher a new phase for Indian motoring. By doing this we would give a strong signal to manufacturers that Indians have graduated .. and we can differentiate between the finer and the bad things .. cheers | Reply

All these Japanese cars demand premium prices in India because they feel that they are very refined and are market leaders. However, when you can spend money why not spend on something like a BMW 3 series, Audi A4, etc which are much more fuel efficient and are in the premium segment. CRVs and Fortuners are nowhere close to Endeavour (which is much cheaper and feature rich) or if you want Desi, Safari is the most strudy beast you would have seen on Indian roads. Cruze is giving Civic and Altis a run for their money with the features, performance and price. Even in mid sedan segment, Honda City and Corolla has rivallry from Linea now. Plus, there are also Hyundai cars which are cheap and use and throw type after 3-5 years. So, I don't know why do we want to go for something which is over priced? | Reply

If people stop buying them, you can see for yourself that they will bring down the price and 2. The Indian government makes a huge lots of money by charging high taxes and use that for their own personal scams. Recently I bought new Honda city in red color from Pune dealer. color of brand new car's front bumper did not match with the rest of the car!! they refused to accept it in the beginning. finally when i wrote to the MD, they accepted the fault. then they gave me foolish reasons why it happens. "Bumper is plastic and car is metal so we have to use different color compounds hence it will always be different" etc. when i asked how the rear bumper has no problem they understood it was a lie. MD never replied to me in proper Japanese tradition. after painting my bumper several times it matches now!!Oof, what an experience.i had tremendous respect for Honda, and i still have faith in them but i am confused. I wonder why they failed this time? | Reply

I am surprsied that you accepted this car in the first place, the fact the bumper color does not match clearly raises suspicion that the front end has taken a shunt and that the bumper was replaced by the dealer. | Reply

Actually the dealer was right when he mentioned that They have to use differnt type of paint for Plastic and Metals. It is difficult to match the shades and there will me some difference may be not visible to the human eye. Very rarely it is visible. which was your case | Reply
raj (06 November 2009 13:59) Reply to jigubhai
I have had my Honda bumpers repainted four times and not even once there has been a color mismatch between the bumper and body. Your dealer is telling a lie. Get your car to a good body shop and see how easy it is to match bumper and body colors. Also this means the car was damaged by the dealership because of which the bumper color was different. Honda will NOT ship a car out if there is a visible defect in it. You should not have taken delivery. Let us all know who this dealer is so that we don't buy from him in future

Great to see all the comments in this section. Almost all seem to agree that Hondas are overpriced for what they offer. Overpricing and creating an artificial supply shortage are the tricks that Honda has tried on Indians successfuly so far to create a premuim image. India seems to have understood these gimmicks finally! Thanks to glabal Indians also who have rightly brought home the point that Hondas have half of the features in India at double the price for the same model in other countries. Congratulations to all of us. | Reply

We are already late in acting to de-risk mother Earth from the potentially great damage of Global Warming. Let's wake up and look at the basic requirements | Reply

The impact of buying the wrong vehicle (based on road conditions, operational constraints, etc) is far greater than fuel efficiency. Most places in India have struggling road system, no proper maintenance plan. For example, I'm from outskirts of Jamshedpur. Roads are horrible, even if they remake it, doesn't last long. Small cars can't handle the beating, there's genuine need for vehicle with higher ground clearance. Please don't follow blind politics. 'Global warming' is a function of many parameters. The best measure is measuring carbon waste, which means living in a efficient society, reduce waste in all sectors | Reply

Yes! absolutely right...all SUVs available in india is overpriced. These CRV, XTRAIL, VITARA are just ENTRY level SUVs that cost around rs 10 lakh in Japan/US. What ever the quality improvement they bring, this price is not justifiable. Why should indians pay extra 12 lakh? Does rupee has no value? | Reply

I do not care about what Honda launches in India but I do feel taht Honda has no snese for customer satisfaction. My car Honda City met a freak incidence which caused a hole in engine sump and drained all engine oil. I coudl not even figure out what caused this damage and resulted in car stalling. To my horror, Honda dealer tells me that I have driven car without engine oil.Since then, I am running pillar to post between ICIC Lombard and Honda and no one is telling me or convincing me that how this can be my mistake and quoting insuranec clause that this is a consequential loss. All my efforts to contact Honda are proving futile as I can not get past Honda customer contact telephone and speak to any Honda executive. In my mind, this is a plain design deficiency which exposes entire engine body from teh bottom and amenable for any accidnetal stone hit from teh bottom. In stead of listening to a customer, Honda is simply refusing to acknowledge faults with their vehivle. In the process, I am forced to shell out almost Rs 1.50 lacs.I am paying this price for so called Honda name | Reply

Hey, if this is accident which has caused the oil to be drained off ICICI is bound to pay.The case of breakage of the sump or the hole in the sump be shown to the insurance investigator and the claim should be settled by the company, the meaning of consequential is way different and cannot be taken in this context at all. This is a pure case of accidental loss and it is payable. In consequential loss the consequence of you knowing well in advance that such a thing is going to happen and you have still used the car after it's happening consequently caused the damage. The insurance company is taking cover under a false clause, get a good surveyor to give a second opinion you will get your claim | Reply

You spend 10 Lakhs on the car and are now worried about 1.5 Lakhs. Or better buy a Bajaj Auto and Tow your car around. It will cost you less. | Reply

Hi- Since you are in this puddle - here is the way out- get to Mayapuri and buy a new honda engine which has been taken out an accidental car and has done under 20,000 kms - for about 15,000 rupees. The Mechanic will take 2000 to replace it- why do you worry ? Cheers. | Reply

How come this Honda CRV costs 30 percent less than Toyota Fortuner in Philippines and in India it costs 35 percent over and above that? ( exactly CRV costs14,95,000 peso for a 2.4 liter 4wd and the Fortuner costs 17,41,000 peso for 3 litre 4 wd) Why is that bias to Indian customers? Honda should committ to customers in long run rather just sqeezing too much from it's long standing loyal customers. Refer; www.auto-searchphilippines.com/ | Reply

Yeah! when both products are coming from abroad and are Japanese origin why is such hge difference...??? And there are people who are not happy about questioning it. Possibally they may be having money which may not be hard earned or not at all earned by them. If you really earn it nobody just don't want to loose it like that. | Reply
