Test Drive Ford Figo

B-segment scorcher priced aggressively, starts at Rs 3.5 lakh for the petrol and Rs 4.48 lakh for the diesel

We quite liked the Ford Figo when we chanced to drive it just last month, and our verdict for the car was certainly positive albeit if Ford India managed to price the car sensibly. Pricing for the new hatch has just been revealed, and Ford seems to have gone for the jugular - the Figo will start from Rs 3.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the base version 1.2 petrol. The 1.4-litre diesel engine option will start from Rs 4,47,900 (ex-showroom Delhi).

Pricing is at par with the respective new benchmarks for hatchbacks. The 1.2 petrol Figo will equal the smaller but newer Chevrolet Beat in its pricing, while the 1.4 diesel is almost at par with the Maruti Suzuki Ritz. The diesel variant will also undercut the newly launched Volkswagen Polo 1.2 diesel by almost half a lakh of rupees.

Deliveries for the new car will begin immediately, in fact we have already spotted the car on display at various Ford dealerships already. The company has also ensured that its sales and service network has been suitably ramped up to accommodate the initial demand for the Figo. The company currently has 167 dealerships in 97 cities ? 28 of these dealerships were opened in one day. Clearly, Ford India seems geared up for the bringing the Figo on the streets in a large way.

    1) On my last tankful to tankful calculation, i got an FE of around 14.5 with full city driving and AC on at all times. Am happy with it at the moment2) Had given the car for the first free service on Saturday morning and got it back the same day - No issues there3) I reported the underbody scraping to the service supervisor Sathish at chennai ford, Arumbakkam - Apparently almost all Figo owners have complained to this dealer (at least!) of this issue. He, of course says that they can't do anything as this is something to do with the designFigo owners, what choice are we left with now? Should we just accept the fact that our car's underbody will scrape speedbreakers, especially with 4 people on board under normal driving conditions? | Reply

I bought a new Ritz couple of weeks back, it's excellent and I feel great for my choice. It gives 19 km/pl on high way and 16/pl in city with AC. The smoothness of the engine is better than the others in its class. With full load the performance of the engine is excellent, the shift from 2-3 is much better than swift. The high seating position gives you great comfort while driving. The car is very spacious and excellent for elders to feel comfortable | Reply

Ford Figo Titanium Petrol doesnot have the following:-REAR POWER WINDOWS,WINDOWS DOESNOT GO BELOW FULLY AT THE REAR- ITS LIKE FIAT PADMINI,The Price in Bangalore is too high.Yesterday I went to Forum Mall and a Demo car was kept, I asked him for the Price-he said the Price in Bangalore of Diesel top end is 6.36 Lakhs. This is too much. For a small 1.4L Duratorq Engine, this amount is too much. Also,When the front seats are pushed back, there is hardly any leg room for passengers who sit at the 2nd Row Seat. I was a bit disappointed by knowing all these. Likewise, if somebody is going for this range vehicle, I would request him/her to change the segment and get a bigger car. | Reply

Mech (22 March 2010 18:38) Reply to SHEKHAR GHOSH
that might be the case in banglore.. but in punjab.. ford figo titanium costs just Rs. 530000. thats just so much awsome. i am getting the delivery of the vehicle today.. and have tried and tested the car many a times. the engine specs are good.. the only drawback is the Rear power windows.. other wise there is ample of leg room. moreover the interiors are aesthetically designed. i would recommend u not to go for the coral interiors as the colour is very sidey.. and it itches in your eyes in summers.. the Black interiors look awsome.. people saying that it has a noisy engine.. are absolutely mistaken.. the engine is fabulously cladded and has enhanced silencers.. you won't even feel anything inside the cabin.. obviously when you outside near the engine it's just a little loud.. but thats absolutely the same with Ritz, swift, punto .. or any other car for a reason.. Guys just have a look at the pricing again and think.. even in the Punto u get these many features for over 6 lacs. moreover Fiat models get obsolete very quickly.. Remember the case of Fiat Sienna, or even palio.. Swift is gud.. but is practically a featureless car.. Dzire is although better but then its not a hatch.. for Tata u absolutely cant rely on plus there happens to be a great amount of wear tear for tata cars although the engine in vista is very good.. its Fiats.. but then the make is still tata.. i myself am a Mech Engineer. and have tried out all these mosels.. i feel out of all these Ford Figo is the Best.. the only car above Figo is VW Polo.. but then the high end version of polo costs somewhere around 698000 showroom price.. so at this price with these features.. just go Fida over the ford figo.. | Reply

MechI want to know how the Coral colour moves sideways.I am also very interested in knowing how a colour can itch your eyes? Also, if you can't feel anything inside the cabin, do you know if the seat is hard or soft and the plastic soft or firm. Can you feel the indicators? Please let me know? I am really curious | Reply
MECH (06 April 2010 18:40) Reply to Hasmukh
the colours being sidey.. means the coral colour looks cheap.. it isnt vibrant enough to appeal.. moreover a car feels decent only if u but black or beige interiors.. this coral thing lacks substance.. although if u are keen on giving the car a sports look it might suit u.. the plastics inside are OK.. they are of the same standards as compared to suzuki or hyundai.. plus they have silver trims which add to the appeal.. the seats are good.. the fabric used is just awsome.. look seats are something u always get customized as per ur needs.. get the Bucket fitting done on the seats with leather seat covers and theyll look just awsome..the indicators within the car are sufficient for a pleasureable drive.. just that the tachometer doesnt have a HEAT meter.. its just got a signal showing the car is above the heat levels.. the rear power windows are missing.. except for these things.. the car is fully loaded.. look.. if finding flaws is the aim, even mercedes can have flaws.. but then at this price with ford figo and awsome mileage around 20-22 for diesel(as per my drive) flaws dont stand a chance

Figo is sure positioned for runaway success. Ford did a great job by introducing new dealers and service stations. Some axing of the exisitng dealer was necessary to improve its bad image that is created by its dealers and service network. Whereas this may not be an easy job immediately but I do hope that this is being monitored as well. In the new dealers NCR got just two more dealers but only for Delhi. Very true. But let's feel proud of the fact that we (Indians) taught Honda a lesson that we dont care for the brand value only. Honda has in any case good marketing strategies. If you read any article anywhere in the print, you could conclude that Honda vehicles have higher mileage than others. Ask any Honda owner, he has no such feeling. This is a very well marketed gimmick by Honda as the first time buyers rarely have access to the true data. Once you are trapped, you need to praise your new 'baby' anyways. It will take some time before we see this 'game' of Honda the way saw 'Jazz' becoming 'Na-Ja(ya)zz'. | Reply

Good Price launch for Ford Figo. However i saw the Premier RIO SUV priced at Rs 5.50 lacs. What a vehicle and what a price.Looks like i would go in for the RIO rather than a car. | Reply

what can i say, Maruti is in for some serious competition now, what with the Figo and Polo. wont be surprised if its market share goes down significantly by the end of this year. what more does Maruti has besides Swift and Ritz?? it needs new models on an annual basis and not just face lifts | Reply

Long Long wait for diesel swift,People want to buy.......there is long waiting. They'll have to be cautious as FIGO shall pose a serious challenge | Reply
SWIFT (28 March 2010 17:57) Reply to Sunil
The SWIFT even after 5 years of it's launch still can't be compared with man. Figo/polo is pawnd by Swift. Have you driven the Diesel?? It's insanely powerful engine !! It's the best car till date and I'm sure Suzuki is watching and will still the show as usual though i agree they have to tune up the interiors alot to rule the market ..the Ritz already has a better build quality than Swift ;) | Reply
