India's Best Cars Under Rs 10 Lakh

Best Premium Hatch

Premium hatches are somewhat new to our country, and slowly but surely buyers are ditching their big-car complexes for these spacious, modern and practical cars. Apart from Chevrolet SRV which can be called the first premium hatch in India, the Skoda Fabia set the scene with its launch. Then came the Hyundai i20 to warm the segment up and banking on the heat was our pick of the segment, the Honda Jazz.

Honda Jazz

The price of the car seemed outrageous when it was launched - and our unrelenting readers complained by bucketfuls. A couple of hours spent with the car though, and you start feeling good about the big bucks that Honda is demanding for the Jazz. First off is the typical Honda build quality combined with the general sense of reliability that oozes out of every element in the car.

Then there's the huge space on the inside that makes this car more of a mini-MPV than a hatchback. Usability and practicality on the inside abounds too - with that the flexible seating arrangement that liberates even more space inside the cavernous cabin - if required! While the Jazz may look a little queer in photographs, it really is a good looking car too. And snug under the swooping bonnet is a techno-savvy 90PS 1.2 litre i-VTEC engine that puts out 110Nm of torque. What else could you want!

Absolutely fabulous car. I bought one last month. All these negative comments from your readers seem to be based on theory and a comparison of a spec sheet - kind of like choosing a wife based upon her figure (measurements). Pay for quality and you will get it. I am very happy with my purchase! | Reply

Have you put out a comparison item wise of the Jazz and the i 20? you will find you are paying over a lakh more just for the leather seats !! All esle being the same !! Besides, the i20 will chill a can of coke for you in the huge glove compartment, or if the lady friend / wife so desires a bottle of champagne too !! Does the Jazz do that? Put them side by side and tell yourself honestly, which is the better looking of the two ? | Reply

Is it a paid review or something? All Honda products are overpriced in India. Look at Honda City - it's a great engine packaged in cheap farbric, plastics and totally underfeatured for that price (no ORVM indicators, foglamps, alloys etc) | Reply

zigwheels reports seem to be biased. Honda jazz might be a good car. but if you are selling a car worth 5 lacs for 20 lacs it should be mowed down | Reply

It is unfortunate that Zigwheel did not consider Maruti 800 in this category otherwise Suzuki 800 would have won hands down. | Reply

Are you guys ok or its all about the money? where is pure automotive journalism? why else will your comparo-diesel chart give the punto diesel the max 4.5 stars but still finds no mention in your best premium hatch...not even as a rival...!! | Reply

Guys, you deserve a cake for goofing up again and again! The fully loaded i20 with a gem of a diesel engine costs almost 15 grands less than the Honda Jazz! It's drop dead good looks, wonderful fit | Reply
