Bajaj Auto to launch 'Baby' Pulsar

27 Nov 2009

Buying a Bike ? Get Best Deal

Definitely Male. That was the tag line that took the biking nation by storm and unleashed a new breed of motorcycles in India from the Bajaj stable. It was a turn around story for Bajaj to switch from scooters to motorcycles and it was an enthusiast's mind that lead the company to target the performance/leisure bike segment rather than the commuter class.

A brand was born and today the Pulsar name is synonymous with speed, sport and riding thrill. The first Pulsar was a 150cc machine that immediately took on the CBZ from Hero Honda. Bajaj pursued this line of thought and over the years the company has introduced a number of variants on the Pulsar brand which include a 180cc model, 200cc model and the recently launched 220cc, which incidentally is the fastest Indian motorcycle present in the country.

Contrary to pushing up the ladder, Bajaj is now looking at a whole new segment yet again! The company will roll out a 'baby' Pulsar on December 9th, and with D-Day not too far away, the biking community is already buzzing with action wondering just what this new bike is.

As far as the bike is concerned, we too are waiting for the wraps to come off, however what we do know is that this new bike is going to sport a sub 150cc engine, yet retain elements of sportiness, style and performance. Downsizing might be a mantra in the market right now, but I wouldn't write off this bike just because its going to come with a smaller engine for it totally depends on the state of tuning that the bike sports which will eventually determine its performance capabilities. One can expect the design and styling to be spot on with the necessary oomph factor that the Pulsar brand offers. The new bike is also a big step towards democratizing the thrill of performance biking and making it easier for someone to step up onto the leisure biking bandwagon.

On a corporate level, Bajaj is looking at crossing the 1 million bike mark post the launch of this new model.

It's almost December and we won't have to wait much longer to figure out what this new bike packs. Stay tuned

I am also a pulsar owner. Previously I have had a Pulsar 150 Now Pulsar 200. I am really unhappy with their rear shocker and after sales service. Bajaj auto have only one service centre in west bengal. which is situated at kolkata. So they are looking for quantity not quality. Quality of service is very poor. | Reply

hi, i am using pulsar-150 from last 7.5 years, the first version of pulsar, and belive me guys its the best machine. the firing still very good. many of friends who have later versions of pulsar, say that the firing sound for their bike is not as good as mine. take regular care of care of your bike and always add good engine oil, never go for loose oils, even at the bajaj services centers, and stick to one brand. I have never in these 7.5 years used any other oil than castrol.and change the oil on time. | Reply

Bajaj Pulsar...opened up a complete new era of binking in Indian Youth..the bike have been so fabulous and performing that since its launch, no other bike has come nearer to it in popularity...the thing about quality is, that if it is maintained properly, this bike has very less quality issues, though Service Centers of Bajaj are just nightmares. For just plain washing and oil change they make a huge bill equal to whole month's Fuel consumption..so that is one area where Bajaj needs to focus for wider customer base...otherwise its just a fantastic effort to drive on.. | Reply

Bajaj has definitely come a long way since people used to tilt their scooters to start them (and there were jokes on how rocket scientists used the "Bajaj Technology" to launch India's first rocket). They are really quick adapting and have given all the other manufacturers a run for their money. | Reply

bajaj is after all an Indian company. It does the best what its good at. You can't expect a superbike's performance in these, but Bajaj is improving with every bike they are producing. And by comparing it with any other brand's bike, like they always say, "The grass is always greener on the other side", I feel it is better than R15 | Reply
  • rajan (05 December 2009 19:26)
bajaj has been affected by the "quantity spoiling quality" issue. While they were enthusiastically pursuing the numbers with eye catching bikes, they forgot that the quality is slowly going down. Most of the comments are valid and the bikes are good initially but start to develop problems later and the servicing centers are not able to cope up. Compared to Bajaj, TVS and Yamaha are doing good though their bikes are priced a bit higher in some segments. Its time Bajaj looked inside their own organisation to get things in order. | Reply

dudes , anyone can make a 100,150,200, 250or even 300 cc bikes nowadays and bajaj have jus doen that.....a yamaha 150 cc looks and feels way better than a bajaj 200 cc or more......well bike MAKERS are bike MAKERS....and scooter makers are scooter makers....wat will happen if a cobbler makes a soup....it may taste good for a while....u will end up findin footwear peices half way ur bowl!! | Reply

I am a pulsar user for last 3 year and bike sucks big time. we friends bought it together but we all now feel we were in mass hysteria. ride apache, yamaha fz etc and you will find out that u have pt 70k bucks down the drain. i know its hard to call your own decision wrong after some time but lets face it guys Bajaj is same old company that sold pathetic scooters just based on trust while better ones like LML were fighting hard (same mass hysteria) i think bajaj should stop making bikes and first start garrages to learn the what it takes to make good bikes | Reply

first of all Bajaj to think about the quality of the existing product and the service part.... Quality issue from external... first and the great quality is the clutch and 2nd blunder is that the silencer part.... each and every pulsar getting rusted around the pulsar and it is getting damaged....and know with baby pulsar.... and next will be micor pulsar..... Bajaj to think about how to improve the quality of the existing product and existing customer satisfication | Reply

Quality of Service decreases as the age of bike increase, i have bajaj 180cc bought 1.5 years before, it was like super bike for .5 years, for past 1 year facing problem in carburette, asking service centre to resolve it from past 1 year.. still the problem not resolved...First they have to think the quality of existing product...but no one can beat bajajs' pickup | Reply

Tell all of you asking for the Electric Bikes... We (India) are in Scarce of electricity… we don't have enough of it to even supply it to our farmers and industries have to make cuts on production due to this. I think we all should oppose anything electric unless we have enough to keep our farms green and industries running 24X7. Some will say the nuclear power is coming soon… Soon, but not yet.Food for thought… Imagine 1 million “Baby Pulsors” running on the streets all over India… how much electric power will it consume? Do you think we can meet the demand within next 10-15 years? | Reply
Ram Kumar (02 December 2009 03:06) Reply to Random thought
yes, you can, if you plan and implement technology effectively. India has unlimited solar power and you will be able to even sell electricity back to government if you invest. | Reply
Raj (02 December 2009 10:00) Reply to Ram Kumar
u r correct. Solar is going to come to India very soon. You can generate your solar power (part of your total consumption) on your own. Slowly this technology will grow. Who know after few years you can collect your complete power from your roof top | Reply

Baby Pulsar? They already have XCD and Platina in sub-150 segment? Why do they need another machine in the same segment with a different styling? Its time Bajaj start working in a higer segment for niche customers. How about producing Ninja's here in India to lower the costs and make it more affordable for Indian buyers. Or may be work on a V-twin with Pulsar lineage? We would love to see more innovation from Bajaj.Anyways expecting the baby pulsar to be better than the existing bikes in the same segment. | Reply
